Mission: Into The Void
Location: Lionheart

Ull walked away from Captain Hadenbeer and figured it was as good a time as any to meet his staff. He keyed up his commlink. "All tactical and security department staff meet in my office." He made his way there as well, though he made sure to take his time. He didn't want to beat everyone there.

"Jun!"

"hmmm?"

"Jun! Your boss just sent you summons!"

"..." Jun glanced over at his tunic laying across the back of the chair, "He did?"

Ensign Salt slapped his shoulder and said, "For a tactical officer your situational awareness leaves a lot to be desired. Don't you think you should go?"

"...But we just st-"

Salt pushed Jun, he rolled off the bed and onto his ass, "Go, you idiot! And don't forget your boots!"

As he walked in he took a good look at everyone that would be working under him. He had read over their files, but he hadn't committed everything to memory. "Good morning everyone. I am Lieutenant Commander Ull Arkyn, the new Chief Tactical and Security Officer here. I am excited to be here and hope I can do right by each and every one of you. I have an open door policy, so feel free to come by any time you feel you need to talk. I am going to sit back the first few days while I am here and see how you guys work. If I feel we may be able to do it better I will bring it up to you and we will see if we can work together to make this team as smooth and fluid as possible. Now, does anyone have anything for me?" Ull paused and looked around at them all to see if they had any question or comments for him. He didn't want to take up too much time, since they still had preparations to make to get underway.

"All right, team. Go forth and do great things. Lets get Lionheart ready to get underway. Make all manned and ready reports to me once the pre-underway checklist is completed."

Jun had managed to make it to the office just a bare minute before the new boss, he had managed to get his tunic zipped up a bare second before the man strolled in. Nodding, he departed, his mind wondering if the man had a sister...

Ull then keyed up his comms to contact the head of Engineering. "Lieutenant Commander Sheppard, this is Lieutenant Commander Arkyn. My team is going to be running tactical systems checks as part of our pre-underways. You may see power fluctuations as the systems are tested. If it spikes too high let me know and we will work to figure out what is causing the issue." He waited for a reply before he contacted the Chief Operations Officer.

<“Acknowledged, Commander,”> Sheppard comms. <“Will you be starting with Protocol Theta? I can disengage the Photon relays now if you like?”> he offers.

"Hmm... Yes, that would be great. Thank you Commander. I'll get my crew started on Protocol Theta." He responded to Commander Sheppard and then switched his comms over to Ensign Aakan Jun. "Ensign, get the crew started on Protocol Theta. Engineering is going to be disengaging the Photon Relays for us."

Ull keyed up comms for the Chief Operations Officer. "Lieutenant Fitzgerald, this is Lieutenant Commander Arkyn. Do we have anymore munitions coming in? I want to make sure that we're stored and secured before we need to get underway."

Alia glanced at her console after tapping a few keys. "Everything is on board, inventoried and stowed, Commander. I'd like to run a few simulations of how the ship will handle quantum torpedoes as I'm unfamiliar with that weapon system and its effects. Holodeck first and then maybe with the actual ship but no live ammo. There's enough newcomers that I think it would be valuable." She paused and Ull could hear her smile even over the speaker, "Myself included."

"I can definitely agree with that, Lieutenant. I know the theory behind them, but have never seen them in action. I would like to see active tests on how they function at warp speeds." He paused before continuing. "I'll meet you on the holodeck for some tests, if you have time."

"I'd like that. There's enough new people that's it's close to a shakedown cruise so we should plan ahead. Naturally, we should float the plan by the Captain but I doubt she'd disagree." She tapped her console as she thought. "What do you think about eventually setting up a bit of competition? My family would split into small teams and play against each other whenever we wanted to learn something unfamiliar. I think something like that could work here as well. We'd have to mix up the skill levels so no team could dominate, of course."

"A friendly competition... I like that idea." Ull thought for a few seconds. "I think for starters we could swap our assistant officers. That would at least insure that our top knowledge is assisting each other."

"I've yet to even see mine but there's a meeting today after my shift to familiarize myself with the Ops team. What say we get together later and hammer out the details? It would have to be after duty hours, I'm afraid, as my first day is rather solidly packed."

Ull checked an alert on his padd. "Apparently I am busier than I thought too." He chuckled after the comment. "Another time then. I shall meet you sometime after duty."

“Sheppard to Arkyn,” the Chief Engineer’s voice comes over the commlink. “Relays are offline. You can run your test at your discretion. Ensign Collins is on standby awaiting completion.”

"Thank you, Sheppard." Ull replied and then switched over his comm. "Arkyn to Jun, Engineering has the relays offline. Start the rest when ready and report completion to myself and Ensign Collins."

Jun blinked and realized he had been day-dreaming about Salt to the point where he had almost missed what Arkyn-his boss!-had said. His hands flashed across his board and reported, "Test being conducted, sir!"

Idiot, he told himself. If he got on Arkyn's bad side so soon into the voyage there was no telling what sort of scut work he would be assigned...!

"Thank you, Jun." Ull brought up the status of all current tests on his PADD. So far everything was running pretty smoothly, but the ship was just coming out of drydock...

A few days later Devin caught up to the Chief Tactical Officer while on his rounds. Her cane making muffled tapping noises on the carpet, she matched pace with him.

"So, Commander," she inquired, "How goes your assessment of your people? And how are you getting along with the other senior officers?"

"My people seem very talented, a lot of potential with them. I just need to guide them in the right direction." Ull thought about the other senior officers that he has had time with. "I am certainly getting along with Sheppard. Haven't had too much time with the others, but I don't think I have sensed any ill will from them."

"Good to hear," Devin noted, "Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help."

She paused and seemed to want to say more. Something in her expression, something...searching. Then it was gone.

"Well," the Captain said, "Carry on, then, Commander. Unless...there is anything else?"

"I haven't made that much headway with the practical joker yet, but I will be focusing more on it as soon as our tests are completed. I didn't turn up anything in the logs for the music that played during your entrance to the ship." Ull have a slight smile. He knows that he need to work more at it, but his new job on this new ship has been stealing his focus.

"...Right. Yes, of course. Well, I am certain the new round of combat simulations will keep you busy, Commander." with a nod the Captain strode away.

Busy enough to keep you focusing on anything else, she thought...
