Location: Lionheart Main Engineering
Timeline: Current

Place: USS Lionheart's Main Engineering Department
Time: After Dernah came on the ship

Brendan Dernah had left the bridge after meeting the FO and managed to sneak away from the bridge. Once he made his way to Engineering, and upon entering he was flabergasted. It was rather huge for a ship of this design. Though, he had never encountered a member of this particular class of ships, he was a quick study.

Yadira was flat on her back under the console when she sensed the presence of the Chief. "Yeah big sucker isn't she," she said sliding out finally. "Lt. Cmdr. Yadira Risen ACEO at your service Chief. Glad to have you here. She is a big engineroom ain't she, " Yadira finished. "You can call me Yadira please," she added.

"Actuall Yadira, she's enormous and gives all plenty of room to work and for that, I'm immensely grateful. I've worked in many an engine room and I can safely say that this one is the largest. Do you have a 'senior staff' ready to go, Commander?" he asked his assistant.

Before Yadira had a chance to speak, Lt. Jg. Shadai took the spotlight while she smiled at his eagerness.

Lieutenant JG Suri Shadai ran over and said "Lt. Junior Grade Shadai. Good to meet you sir. How familiar are you with dimensional drives?"

"To be honest, Lieutenant Shadai, I've never worked with one. But I am a very quick study and I promise that any deficiency I currently have will not t continue to be such for long."

"Well, the dimensional drive was experimental to begin with, but now the Vedalas upgraded our drive and and we'll be about to travel through the void. It's all completely experimental." Suri smiled and said. "Isn't it wonderful. We are so lucky to be here and breaking all this new ground. We're going to be able to submit so many academic papers, well that is if this technology is ever declassified."

All Yadira could do was smile. "You have good people here Commander. They will follow you and take good care of the ship and each other," she added smiling herself.

"Thanks, Commander. Truly brilliant, Commander," Dernah said.

Lieutenant Commander Kevin Vallick appeared from around a corner. He had jumpsuit on over his uniform and it was covered in fresh grease stains. Vallick wiped his hands as best he could and said "You must be the new guy. I just took apart one of the secondary phase inducers there was nearly a short in one of the back up systems. I'm Vallick, Kevin Vallick." he said as he held out his hand to shake Dernah's. He looked at Dernah and said to Yadira. "I can't believe they hired someone over one of us. We've been working our fingers to the bone holding together this bucket of bolts and they send us this guy," he looks at Dernah and says "No offense I'm sure you're a find officer." Then he continues with his rant. "I mean no one else knows how you have to jury rig the tertiary line coil or your flood the whole subsystem. I mean you can't teach that you just have to feel it?" He looks at Dernah and says "Have you ever field stripped a secondary warp coupling while keeping the primary system at warp 9?"

Yadira looked at Dernah and shook her head. 'It was gonna be one of those days again' she thought to herself.

Dernah doesn't say anything he just stares at Vallick with daggers in his eyes.

Vallick turns his back on Dernah and looks at Shadai and then at Yadira and says to her "It's like I said, they promote children that have no idea what they're doing here. This isn't a daycare and I'm not a kindergarten teacher." Vallick walks off to return to his work.

Tossing her hands in the air yet again in disgust, "I just don't believe it. Sahdai come on and help me with the bloody damned core!" Stopping after a few steps she stopped, "Kelso! Go help Vallick with his work instead of standing there looking stupid!" she barked before walking off with Sahdai.
