Reeza had gotten up early-she was always up early, because for some reason, children had a knack for waking up before the Gods were awake to ask for food, entertainment, or whatever else they needed, and if she wanted a moment's peace, she had to wake up before the children. She fixed herself a cup of coffee- black, dark, hot, and settled in with her PADD on the couch-cum-bench. Quietly, she turned the handheld computer on, and scanned the messages from the subspace relay system. Nothing for her personally; everything was well, shipside.
There was a message from her mother, though, so she opened it as she sipped the coffee. She made a face; more of the same crap of "have you met anyone yet, new postings were good for that, blah blah." With a sigh, she tapped back a message that she and Soja were well, and that she hadn't yet met anyone that she should date, but she'd only been there for 25 days, and who the hell would she meet in 25 days? Ok, so she left the last bit out. And also the parts about her new Android "daughter" and the Romulan she shared caring for the Android with. Ok, most of her life for the past month. She hit send, and sighed again, softly.
She stood up, crossing to the console where the kitchenette and food replicator were, to start some breakfast. As she dug out the supplies to make some pancakes, she found a little card that had fallen out of a pot she rarely used. It was a Mother's Day card. She recognized it from the first year she'd been a mom; right after Soja had been born in March. It wasn't a holiday on Bajor, but some of the Humans still celebrated it and Luca had always done cute and sweet things like that for her. She sat down, there on tiled floor of the kitchenette and read, the tears streaming and she unable to stop them.
Happy Mother's Day
to My Beautiful Wife
Your love, patience, kindness & grace made me
fall in love with you. I see those same qualities in our child each & every day. I'm so happy to share
my life with you...
After a moment, she pulled herself up off the floor, and got to work, tucking the card into her pajama pocket to put away later. A bit later, she had calmed down, and got the girls up to get them ready to eat. Soja recognized her as upset, and she told her the truth. "I found a letter from Daddy; it made me sad for a minute because I miss him, but I am ok now." She said. "Get your stuff together and help Doria to set the table. I will finish the pancakes and then we'll see what we should do today." She said. She smiled at Doria. "Think about some things to share," she said.
Doria began setting the table with Soja's help, as they worked Doria asked. "Mistress Reeza is distressed? The card found was it of something bad? Please wait here a moment Mistress." She hurried over to where Reeza was watching from the door.
Reeza placed the card from her pocket into the drawer where she kept Soja's under clothes and socks. "Let's go eat."
Once she had passed Doria the android went to the drawer and looked over the card. Returning to Soja she explained about the card being a 'Mothers Day' card. "What is that and why would it upset Mistress?"
Soja nodded. "My daddy would give her those for howidays. Mother's Day is cewebrated by the humans. She showed me this one; it was the first one after I was borned," she said. "He usuawy bought them but sometimes he made them or asked one of the sitters to. Before...he died." She explained.
"We should make her one today," she smiled.
"Yes. We should Mistress. How do we construct such a card? If you tell then this one shall procure the item's for us. We shall surprise the Mistress.", Doria smiled.
Soja's eyes lit up. "Yes! She would wike that. We need paper, and crayons. Do we have construction paper? And a pencio to write the words." She was already thinking about what they should say when Reeza appeared.
"This one shall help Mistress Soja", Doria smiled.
"Ok, it's time to eat. Please sit down," she placed a plate of the pancakes on the table and some sausage for Soja and then some syrup. She sat down at the other end, next to Soja. "What do you girls want to do today??" She asked them, as she watched them carefully help themselves.
Doria waited until both began to eat before she started her own meal of the pancake. It did not look like a cake to her but this was one of those things that did not look like the words sound situation. She happily began eating and Doria said, "I think Mistress Soja has an idea for me and her?"
Soja smiled. "We would wike to make art. A card for someone specio." She smiled. Reeza nodded. "OK, you girls can do that while Mommy does some cleaning. I will get the art supplies out shortly." She smiled. A card was a good idea. "Who are you making a card for? Anyone I know?" Soja giggled.
"Well, I was going to make one to send to Grandma but maybe I'll make one for you, too."
"This one also wishes to do this art with Mistress Soja.", Doria smiled.
Reeza smiled. "Ok." A bit later, they were finished with the food, and she got the art supplies out. She set up everything on the table, got the girls seated, and then started to clean up their quarters.
Doria looked over to Mistress Soja and was unsure, She didn't wish to mimic the hard but she did her best to be 'creative'. On it she started by drawing hearts and writing, "Since you took this one in, this one has learned so much. This one has cried but has been happy more. Happy Mothers Day Not Mommy." She then began to decorate with Cheron designs she remembered from the before times.
Soja was busy at work, cutting out petals from colored paper and gluing them to the little flower center she'd drawn. Soon, it was ready. She wished she knew how to write fully, but she only knew a few letters yet. Her mommy had been showing her but it was slow. She wrote "I Lo MoM." She smiled.
As she finished the cleaning-it didn't take much because she cleaned daily, too, but the bathroom was always gross, she sat down at the table. "Are you girls done? I thought we could rest a bit then make a plan for the week. Doria, would you like to visit Commander Rayek this week at all?" She asked.
Doria's head lowered slightly hearing Reeza, "This one is always happy to see Master Rayek if allowed by Master Reeza." The android finished putting the Cheron designs and then began to clean up her slight mess and help clean up whatever was obvious Mistress Soja was done with.
Reeza smiled. "It's always ok with me. I know you share a special bond with him. I will arrange it with him," she said. She took the card that Soja handed her, a TINY bit suspicious by the little girl's giggles. "What's funny?" Soja giggled more, and she looked blankly at Doria. "Thank you for putting your things away. Soja, clean up your things and we can do something else. Maybe go up to the other decks and have dinner in the Lounge." She suggested.
The girls nodded. "I would wike that, Mommy. This one is for you," Soja said, handing her a cute, handmade card. "Doria helped with the words," she said. Reeza smiled.
Doria rose and walked to Mistress Reeza and offered up her card. It had intricate designs up an unknown origin and in the middle was a heart saying inside, 'Happy Mothers Day Not Mommy.'
She hugged the android. "Thank you, girls. You're very sweet. Let's clean up, and then maybe we can go to the holodeck for a swim before dinner! I really appreciate the cards." She smiled, reading them both. How very sweet. She cried again, this time-they were happy tears.
